Absolutely delicious and filling for two. The fish was fresh and melted in my mouth. The salmon mango nigiri was amazing. It had that umami fish taste with a burst of sweetness that actually paired well together. The buns were also very filling and delicious. The fries were not greasy and it was perfectly crunchy. Servers were also very nice. 10/10.
Overview
Amami is one of those hidden gems in Brooklyn that’s easy to overlook, but once you step inside, you’ll immediately understand why it’s earned a loyal following. Located at 57 Nassau Ave, this cozy and inviting spot offers a blend of flavors that perfectly match the vibrant, diverse atmosphere of the neighborhood.
The interior of Amami is simple yet charming, with a modern yet rustic aesthetic that makes it feel like a place you want to settle into. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or a relaxed meal with friends, the ambiance here suits every mood. The staff are welcoming and quick to make you feel at home, making sure you're well taken care of without feeling rushed.
Let’s talk about the food because that’s where Amami really shines. The menu is an exciting fusion of Japanese-inspired dishes that are elevated with a creative twist. From sushi rolls that feel fresh yet innovative to small plates that are perfect for sharing, each dish seems to have been carefully crafted with an eye for both flavor and presentation. One of the standout dishes is their signature poke bowl, which offers a delightful mix of fresh fish, vegetables, and a delicious sauce that ties everything together. The balance of flavors in every bite is just perfect.
For those with dietary preferences or restrictions, Amami is also considerate of various needs. The menu includes plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free options, so it’s a great choice for groups with different dietary preferences. Their gluten-free tempura, for example, is crispy, light, and just as satisfying as the original. It’s one of those rare moments where you can taste the attention to detail in the food preparation.
If you're in the mood for something a bit more indulgent, their ramen bowls will hit the spot. Rich, hearty broths filled with perfectly cooked noodles and tender proteins-there’s no shortage of flavor in every spoonful. Pair that with a side of edamame or some gyoza, and you’re in for a satisfying meal that’ll leave you coming back for more.
What makes Amami stand out, though, is their commitment to quality and consistency. The chefs take great care in sourcing the freshest ingredients, ensuring that each dish is not only tasty but also a visual treat. The attention to detail, from the plating to the flavor profiles, is evident in every single dish on the menu.
Reviews from regulars and first-timers alike rave about the laid-back vibe, coupled with a menu that surprises you each time you visit. Whether it's your first time trying Amami or your hundredth, you'll always find something new to love. The restaurant often features specials that showcase seasonal ingredients, so there’s always something to look forward to.
Another perk of dining at Amami is the location. Nassau Avenue in Brooklyn is bustling with activity, but this little spot feels like a retreat from the everyday hustle. It's a perfect place to enjoy a leisurely dinner after a long day, or even just to grab a drink and a snack before heading out for the evening. Plus, the friendly staff and cozy environment make it ideal for both small gatherings and larger parties.
For anyone visiting the area or locals seeking a new favorite dining spot, Amami is definitely worth checking out. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the service is top-notch. Whether you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine or just in the mood to try something new, you’ll find something here that will hit the spot. Just make sure to leave room for dessert-because once you’ve had their matcha cheesecake, there’s no going back.

Had such a blast here! Definitely take advantage of the lunch special if you can. Enjoyed the mushroom croquettes, tuna trio, yakitori, and sashimi. Drinks here are also pretty good. The whiskey flight is the best bang for your buck!
This place is amazing. I've been coming here for years—the sushi is always fresh and delicious. Daniela is the best; she always explains what you're about to eat. The best oysters and Hokkaido uni in the world.
Sushi here is good however the craft cocktails are exceptional. If you’re thinking about hanging out with friends and kicking back with a few drinks, this is the place. Don’t bother going elsewhere in the neighborhood. I cannot stress the level of expertise and excellence that go into every cocktail. Two thumbs up and keep up with the great job.
On a scale of 10; this place is off the charts. I am a huge sushi fan and the atmosphere, staff, and food is amazing! I got the marble trio and four seasons. Both top tier, but if you get one the four seasons was my favorite. Everything was super fresh and the staff seem to jell very well; they’re so polite! Our server was Majo was our server she was so kind and well educated on the menu!
I went in late afternoon for lunch and it was delicious. The spicy tuna crispy rice was amazing. Rolls are great and service was very friendly.
It has all you can expect for a perfect cozy Japanese experience. From cocktails to wine, sake food and all. We will definitely be back.
Great spot for sushi! The patio space was great, and the whole visual vibe of the restaurant was open, trendy, and accessible. Service was quick and friendly. We split the pork gyoza, charred edamame, and purple potato fries with matcha mayo and they were all AMAZING! The spicy girl roll was my favourite. All the sushi was fresh and colourful, and tasted so good. Definitely recommend, and will keep on a list for future NYC visits.
